What Roofing Material Lasts the Longest in Bend Oregon

Choosing the right roof for your home isn’t an easy option, especially when you live in an area where the seasons can bring all kinds of weather. A roof needs to be durable, strong, and long-lasting in areas that experience changing climates.

The Temperature

Bend has four seasons, all of which experience very different temperatures. The temperatures can range from extremely hot to cold. Thus, efficient roofing materials need to be installed to maximize the efficacy and safety of your roof.

Types of Roofs

As there are so many types of roofs on the market, it can feel quite overwhelming knowing what roofing material lasts the longest. The roof material you choose will not only need to align with Central Oregon’s climate but also the shape of the roof and the appearance you are going for.

Asphalt Shingles

For hot Bend summers, the material needs to be able to withstand extreme heat. Extreme heat can result in cracking in the material if it is not durable. A popular choice for homes in hot climates is clay. Whereas with cold climates, the roofs will most likely experience rain and therefore needs to be able to efficiently withstand the extra weight from snow and rainfall. The popular choice for homes in cold climates is asphalt shingles

Standing Seam Metal Roofs

If you live in a place like Bend, Oregon, then you need a roof that can withstand both extremes of our weather. An ideal material for a roof that experiences hot and cold weather is metal. In particular, standing seam metal roofs are a great option for diverse weather conditions.

Standing seam metal roofs are increasingly popular in areas like Bend, due to their low maintenance, visual aesthetic, and longevity against the harsh conditions.

Metal roofs are more popular for homes. Whereas if you have a commercial building, your roof may be flatter. If so, you may require completely different materials to offer the best results.

Flat Roofs

Single-ply flat roofs offer a more durable combination of flexibility and strength, to provide year-round protection for flat roof buildings. These are a great option for longevity, but may not be the best for allowing water to flow. As they are flat, they are prone to collecting water. Thus, they may not be the best option for the four seasons in Bend if you lack a gutter system.

Without a gutter, water can build up on the roof and cause leaks or cracks. For the best results, if you have a flat roof, a single-ply material with a guttering system will be the ideal solution.

If you worry about energy efficiency, you can also add extra insulation. Insulation can regulate and maintain the best temperatures in the building while reducing the cost of energy bills.

Tile Roofing

Tile roofing is increasingly popular, especially for places like Bend. They are sophisticated, attractive, and ideal for all weather. But, these require more maintenance than metal roofs. If you are looking for the best, most durable, and long-lasting material for your home in Bend, then a metal roof will be the best option.
