Rookie Mistakes We Avoid During a Home Asphalt Shingle Roofing

Whether you’re scheduling a routine asphalt shingle maintenance or planning a full installation, you’ll feel more confident when you work with an experienced contractor who gets the job done right. And as a local specialist in roofing and snow dam removal, Deschutes Roofing offers the best services in maintenance, repair, and replacement! We never commit any rookie mistakes, including:

Installing Mismatched Roofing Shingles

When looking for new shingles, the whole set must be bought from a single manufacturer. Buying the same colored shingle from different manufacturers won’t always mean they’ll have the exact shade, which can lead to mismatched shingles installed on your roof. This won’t be appealing to your home’s visual appeal, and may not attract many buyers if you’re planning to sell your home in a few years.

Leaving Your Old Roof Underlayment Intact

During a pre-inspection, your GAF roofer may find damage in several sections of your roofing underlayment. This is typical if your roof is near the end of its lifespan, but it can also be caused by poor workmanship. While some inexperienced contractors may suggest repairing only the damaged sections, more experienced roofers will recommend a full replacement instead. This is because the whole underlayment material is at its end; even if most of it looks intact, that doesn’t mean it can last as long as your new layer of shingles.

Not Following Proper Roofing Guidelines

Some shingle manufacturers may require a full replacement as part of their warranty. Most manufacturers will also have detailed guidelines on how their roofing materials must be installed. Any old roofing material that’s left intact (especially the underlayment) will only void the warranty. As much as possible, we don’t recommend keeping some of your old materials intact, as it will only cause problems later on.
