Important Questions To Ask a Roofing Contractor

Important Questions To Ask Your Roofing Contractor

Before you hire a roofing contractor, there are some questions you should ask. Naturally, you want to hire the best roofing company and these questions can help give you peace of mind before they begin. Here are some of the most important questions to ask your roofing contractor.

How Much Roofing Experience Do You Have?

It’s a good idea to find out just how much professional roofing experience they have. Hiring someone who’s just doing their first or second roofing job is always going to be more of a risk than hiring an established roofing professional with many years of experience behind them.

Can I Get a Quoted Price?

When they’ve taken a look at the problem and they have an understanding of what kind of work needs to be carried out, you should ask them for a price. That way, you’ll know how much you can expect to pay. Most reputable roofing contractors will be more than happy to provide you with a free quote. If any roofing contractor states that they will charge you for a quote or an inspection for the purpose of giving you a quote, do not do business with that contractor. If they are charging for quotes they are not sufficiently interested in your business.

Which Roofing Materials Are You Planning to Use?

Next, you should ask about the roofing materials. You’ll want to know the quality of the materials that will be used on your home and you’ll want to ensure that they’re not planning to only use cheap materials that might not last. It wouldn’t hurt to also ask about the life of these materials and how many years they will last.

Do You Have Relevant Insurance?

There are plenty of things that could go wrong when a roofing contractor is working on your roof, and that’s why it’s important that they have both general liability insurance and workers’ compensation insurance. General liability insurance protects your home against damages. Workers’ compensation insurance protects you against lawsuits in case an employee is injured or dies in the job. Be sure to ask for copies of these insurance documents that show current coverage.

Do You Use Subcontractors at All?

Most people want to know that they’re hiring the people that they’re in communication with. If subcontractors are used unexpectedly, it can mean you end up having work carried out by people you don’t know or feel comfortable with. If they do use subcontractors, you should also ask them all of the questions listed here.

Do You Provide a Warranty for the Work You Complete?

Ask how long the work will be guaranteed for after completion. They should guarantee their work or provide a warranty for at least one year, so you shouldn’t accept anything less than that. Many contractors will offer longer warranties, especially for a new roof.

Do You Have a Roofing Contractor License

The licenses that are required of roofing contractors differ depending on your location, but you should always ask these questions and make sure that they have all the licenses that the state requires them to have. It’s the least you should expect.

As long as you ask all of these questions and the answers you receive are satisfactory, you should have no hesitation about hiring that roofing contractor. But it’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to carrying out work on your roof, so don’t rush into anything.
