Frank and Josephine Redmond, who began homesteading in the area in 1906, are honored with the naming of Redmond. An irrigation corporation that was in the process of developing a canal across the area was responsible for platting the city. In 1911, the town was officially incorporated. The Oregon Trunk Railroad arrived in town in the same year, ushering in an era of unprecedented economic growth.
