Here are some common insulation mistakes to avoid
With a well-insulated attic, you’ll stay more comfortable at home while enjoying savings on your energy costs. You need to make sure your contractor installs your insulation properly. When your attic doesn’t have sufficient insulation, your heating and cooling bills may rise and you’ll experience discomfort.
Read on to learn common attic insulation mistakes you should avoid from local attic insulation contractors.
Gaps in the Existing Insulation
Insulation prevents conductive heat flow, which means even a small gap between the insulation and attic floor can result in the material’s insulating capabilities. Your insulation contractor must fill in any open area in your insulation and make sure that it fully touches the attic floor.
Covering Recessed Lights
Make sure your contractor doesn’t lay insulation on top of recessed lights. This is important to prevent fires. All insulation must be at least three inches away from recessed light fixtures.
Unsealed Attic Floor
Insulation and sealing are the two most important elements of energy-saving attic space. Look for open soffits as well as gaps between the attic floor framing and chimneys and flues. There may also be holes in pipes, wiring, ductwork, and electrical boxes. Your insulation contractor must seal these gaps using the right materials.
Insulation-Covered Eave Vents
Proper ventilation is essential in preventing mold, condensation, and potential damage to the components of your home. There shouldn’t be anything covering the eave vents. You can make sure of this by installing ready-made baffles between the roof rafters. This addition will keep the airstream open and help prevent loose-fill insulation from moving out of place.
