Gutter Replacement: 6 Signs That You Need to Replace or Repair

Gutters protect your home by channeling rainwater away from the walls and outside ceilings. Properly functioning gutters prevent problems in commercial and residential roofing. Well-maintained gutters may last for years, but they will eventually experience wear and tear that leads to breakdown. This causes considerable and expensive damage. Aside from the roofing problem, common issues include wood rot on ceilings, decks, and porch, among others.

Here are the telltale signs that it is time to change your gutter set-up:

Large gaps, holes, and fractures

Having some of these on your gutter system is repairable using sealants. However, if the set-up has lots of these in its different segments, then better acquire new ones and look into gutter replacement.

Missing nails, screws, and broken fasteners

Fasteners hold the gutter to your roof with the use of screws and nails. Replacing and reattaching fasteners are simple, but recurring instances means it is time to change your gutter.

Sagging and gaps from the roof

When the gutter continues to sag and have gaps from the roof despite repeated repairs, then your fascia board may be rotting. You should seek professional assistance to replace the gutters and fix the fascia issue.

Retained water means it’s time to replace gutters

This means the gutter is not draining properly or sagging in one section. Increased moisture is detrimental to both wood and metal roofing. Adjusting and repairing the fasteners, and clog removal are options. However, if the problem persists, better opt for a new one.

See peeling paints and molds

Peeling exterior paint and molds on your walls and ceilings means water is seeping. These are the result of prolonged exposure to moisture, which means the problem has been happening for a while and it’s time for gutter replacement.

Rusting Materials

Severe rusting on your gutter exposes your roof and walls to more damage. This is disastrous for both residential and commercial roofing set-ups. No amount of nails, screws, and fasteners can prevent rusted gutters from having holes and collapsing beyond repair, resulting in gutter replacement.
