5 Signs Your Roof Was Badly Installed at Home

Roofing repairs and replacements can cause a huge dent in your budget, so you shouldn’t leave these jobs to amateurs. Inexperienced workers will only deliver shoddy workmanship that could lead to shorter roof lifespan or inadequate protection against the weather.

Here are five signs your roof was badly installed.

1. Improper or Bad Shingle Placement

Your asphalt shingles must have proper spacing. Otherwise, the risk of leaks during rainfall increases. Manufacturer-certified roofers are trained to consider this when installing shingles, so you can be sure your roof is watertight.

2. A Uneven Look

Uniformity indicates proper installation. It also means the correct shingles were used because they match. Fortunately, you can easily tell if your roof lacks uniformity. Don’t hesitate to call your contractor and have them redo the job. If you hired an unqualified company before, make sure to call in a reputable roofer this time around.

3. Wrong Use of Roof Nails

The nails must be long enough to pierce through the material and attach the shingles to the sheathing. Improper nail use will shorten the lifespan of your roof and leave it susceptible to blow-offs and water damage. Certified roofers understand the correct way to place nails on the roof and the quantity to use. They will also inspect your sheathing and ensure it has the capacity to hold the nails and your shingles in place.

4. Incorrect Gutter Installation

Your seamless gutters should be slightly angled downward toward the nearest downspout. If your gutters don’t have correct sloping, they won’t effectively drain water. This can cause water to back up onto your roof and cause extensive damage.

5. Flashing Installation Errors

Experienced and certified roofers know how to correctly install flashing on your roof. Flashing is added to protect the roof valleys, vents, chimneys, and other roof protrusions from water infiltration. Incorrect flashing installation can shorten your roof’s lifespan.
